Stereotyping During The Holocaust
During the Holocaust, the German Nazis stereotyped many different kinds of people by their race or religion like anyone who opposed what they and Hitler were doing. Stereotyping means to put people into groups based on their appearance, likes/dislikes, personality, ethnicity, etc.
Here are some stereotypes that the Nazis put people in... The Jews- The Jews were seen a greedy, irrelevant people. They were almost always depicted with big noses in Nazi propaganda.
Black People- There weren't that many black people in Germany at the time, but they were still targeted. The propaganda was usually about harassing women or calling their music worthless. Russians- German propaganda about the Russians was usually about being Anti- Communist and they usually compared lifestyles between the Russians and Germans. It would promote the German lifestyle as better than the Russian's. The Disabled or "Unfit"- The Germans thought they were useless. They couldn't contribute to society. Roma (Gypsies)- They were simply "racially inferior" to the Germans. The Aryans- This was a group that Hitler created. The ideal people in it were only Germans who had blonde hair, blue eyes and were tall. They were considered racially pure and were called the "Master Race" by Hitler. All of these groups of people were stereotyped, along with others. They were put into groups by others based on their race or religion. There were many other groups that the Nazis didn't agree with. |
